You might have escaped it so far, but you can be 100% sure that one of these days something major will go wrong with your computer. When it does, you'll be extremely thankful you took our advice and made that Troubleshoot Toolkit we are about to discuss.

It would be best if you complete the below tool kit but if you just get the software portion done, it will still be an advantage when the day comes when your PC fail to boot. Your Troubleshooting Toolkit should contain the following.

First....place your most recent backup of your operating system, your PC settings, and critical data in the kit.If will allow you to be up and running fast if your problem isn't hardware related.

Second...stop and search for your Windows XP installation CD and be sure you have its serial number as well. If your operating system is an upgrade, you will need the CD of the previous version of Windows.

Third...Carefull study and familiarize yourself with Windows XP's main troubleshooting tools. Learn in detail the Device Manager, msconfig, Defrag, and much more.

Fourth....if possible, gather hardware so you can use them to exchange the good device for a bad one. If you can get a spare monitor, for example, when you have video display problems, it may be the monitor or video card.

With an extra monitor, you could quickly identify which component is causing the problem. We realize you're not going to go out and purchase spare PC parts. Just remember that any parts you can get your hands on will save you troubleshooting steps.

Fifth....Read our previous article, How To Make A Windows XP Boot Disk and Recovery Kit. Then re-read and memorize or print out the Checklist To Reviving Computers.

Lastly...and certainly not least, don't procrastinate, that is, don't put this off. You'll thank your lucky stars you did once your system fail.
