Disassemble Your Laptop

If you want to know how to take apart your laptop, you are in the right article. Here you will find step by step disassembly guides with pictures and video instructions for a Dell and HP laptop. You can use these steps if you want to repair, replace parts, upgrade your computer or just clean it.

The first and most important precaution you should take is to remove any
and all ESD from your body. ESD is Electrical Static Discharge, the static
electricity that builds up in your body and clothes.

You can make major upgrades to the average notebook without the steps
of dismantling the unit.Adding a larger or second hard drive, a faster WI-FI Card, or speeding up your Laptop by adding more RAM can easily by
performed with opening your rig.

But if you want to add a faster CPU, change thye video card ( on a few
models ), you'll have to open the notebook to have easy access. Follow
these steps in order to disassemble your computer.


STEP ONE

Turn the laptop over and remove the battery and the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
You want to remove the battery to avoid any chance of power being turned
on during the dismantling process.

 

STEP TWO

Remove two screws securing the laptop memory cover and remove it. You
don't have to remove the RAM from there sockets Remove the screws securing the laptop hard drive or cover. Your laptop may be slightly
different.

 

STEP THREE

Now carfully remove all screws on the bottom of the laptop. Be sure not
be force any screws and use the correct screwdriver. If the screws are
phipps, use the phipps screwdriver that fits in the screws snuggly so you
don't strip any screws

 

STEP FOUR

Insert a sharp object under the keyboard securing strip or the center cover and carefully start lifting it up. Continue removing the strip with your fingers. Here is where you should very careful with the strip because it has a control board attached to it. Don't rush this step since it may take some time to remove the keyboard strip.

 

 

STEP FIVE

You don't have to but next you may want to remove the Wi-Fi card cover, the modem cover and but you will have to remove all screws from the underside of the computer.

 

STEP SIX

Remove all screws securing the laptop keyboard and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board. Lift the edges of the connector first and then carefully disconnect the keyboard cable.


STEP SEVEN

Remove the four or six screws securing the LCD screen to the computer
and with one hand remove the monitor. With the other hand, you will need
to disconnect the power connector from the motherboard.

 


STEP EIGHT

Now you are ready to separate the upper part of the notebook called the
Palmrest
and the lower section containing the motherboard. If may take
you 3 to 5 minutes for this process if your laptop is new. Take your time
and don't force anything. After careful prying the components apart, your
laptop is now disassembled down to the motherboard.

 

To re-assemble the unit just follow this procedure in reverse order. Knowing
how to maintain, upgrade, and repair not just your laptop, but any laptop
will indeed save you big money and when done right, will put big money
in your pocket.


It is best to try these procedures on a computer other than your new or
business laptop.Remember that opening any computer voids any type of
warranty you have. Make it both educational and fun learning all about
your notebook computer.
